Center City’s Fourth Ward takes up the northwest quadrant of the area inside of highway 277. It exploded in growth during the mid-1800s, during which First Methodist, First Presbyterian, and St. Peters Episcopal Churches were all constructed. Most of the majestic Victorian homes were either destroyed or became commercial buildings and by 1970, many parts of Fourth Ward were unsafe to walk through. During the late 90s we finally started to see a major restoration to Fourth Ward, and it is now considered one of the most thriving parts of Uptown Charlotte.
