You’ve done it! You found the perfect home located in the ideal neighborhood. You had to fight through multiple offers from anxious buyers to win the bid in this current sellers market, but your offer won! You made it through the closing, and unpacked all the boxes. Your new to the neighborhood and want to meet your neighbors, but how? There is no need to sit back in the comfort of your home waiting for the right moment. Here are five creative ways that you can meet your neighbors and have some fun in the process.
Door to Door – put away the electronics for the day and go “old school” door to door knocking. To make this an inviting experience, bring along goodies to share. This can be a baked item, cookies or bread. Don’t like to bake? Buy something to share from your local bakery like the Great Harvest Bread Company.
Walk the Neighborhood – Getting out for some fresh air is not only healthy for you but will give you opportunities to bump in to other neighbor walkers. Walking your dog will give you a way to break the ice and start up a conversation.
Host a cul-de-sac/street get together – It’s always fun to socialize so don’t be afraid to step out and organize an informal backyard evening together for the neighbors.
Check out the neighborhood clubs and join one- Most neighborhoods have organized clubs that range from anything to book club, to bridge to tennis. Find one that you are interested in and join. If your neighborhood doesn’t offer this, be the trendsetter and start it up.
Introduce Yourself – sounds simple, but in our high tech world, people can get lost in their cell phones and computers and forget the art of communication. If you see someone around the neighborhood, simply introduce yourself. You never know what you will find, maybe a lasting friendship.
